welcome to my new blog & introduction !

WELCOME! I've had my blog at another forum (or whatever you call it) for years, but I like the idea of having my website and blog (and everything else I do art related) all in one spot. Make sure to sign up to be notified when I post a new blog. I will be sharing art and art related videos.

For this first post I thought I'd introduce myself and give you a little insight into my life as an artist. I've been doing art all my life but got serious about pursuing it in 2007 and I've not left it since. Art is a part of me and I can't imagine doing life without it.

My first studio was at my kitchen table, then it moved to the kitchen island (where I would stir spaghetti and then turn around and paint), then it moved to a desk upstairs and then in 2011 we moved into a house we build and I had my first studio all to myself. I LOVE my studio space - especially the sink (a sink is a game changer)! Actually, having a space where everything is set up is the real game changer.

I first started painting in watercolor, and though I still have quite a following who still favor my watercolor paintings over anything else I've ever done, once I found oils it was all over for me. I've never really gone back to watercolors but I do sketch in gouache which is in the same "family". But, let's get back to oils - how could you not like them??? Smooth, buttery, they don't dry up on you fast, they stay gooey and moveable, and the color! Oils are when I started to be prolific. I didn't realize how bored I was with watercolors - oils made me want to paint and paint and paint - which is what I did and continue to do.

And with oils, what I was interested most was light - painting the light - speaking more about how the light feels on a subject rather than the details of a subject. I've also not gotten tired of that. I hope you will come back to hear and see more about my little art world. I look forward to sharing it with you!
